[Coelewij Art Introduction] Welcome to this art website of Jan Coelewij / Coelewij Art! This Art-website has been renewed completely, this mainly due to the fact that Jan Coelewij currently also creates fantastic earthenware sculptures produced by the company Royal Delft (The Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles) that can be purchased directly. We did not created a full (UK) mirror of the website but translated/summarised all pages of this (Dutch) website (see below). You can use the navigation bar at the top of the page or use the same (brown) buttons as positioned top-left of each translated section of the site, they both navigate directly to the original Dutch page(s) including all its images and URL's (at this translation, hyperlinks have not been included at this page). Thanks for taking the time visiting this website! |

Dutch Homepage Sculpturist Jan Coelewij creates exclusive sculptures in a wide variety of materials such as stone (including many sorts of marble), ceramic and bronze. He is an artist working with passion and works without pre-occupied thoughts or plans at all. He is able to catch emotions originating form ones soul and translate these directly by means of sculpturing. Freedom is his theme and beauty his target. At his workshop situated directly facing the North Sea in the Hague (Scheveningen) he works with the sea and the shore. Various sorts of Marble, Albast, Onyx. hard or soft stone material, bronze or earthenware, all materials are equally dear to him. The often millions of years old materials speak out there messages of beauty and power again after being sculptured by Jan Coelewij. A constant interaction between the various materials and their possibilities takes place. Jan Coelewij is presenting a selection of his work at this website. Please take the time to navigate through the various pages and see the surprising beauty of stone, bronze and (recent) earthenware (can be ordered on-line) or find out where Jan's work can be seen. |

Examples of sculptures in Stone Jan Coelewij uses a wide variety of stone materials ranging form very hard to rather soft. He applies tools ranging from hand tools such as chisel to pneumatic hammers. He polishes using sand-papering 1200 to 3000. Polishing paste finishes the sculpture and brings the full shine and glory alive. This section of the website shows a (sub) selection of all sculptures available. |

Examples of sculptures in Bronze Jan Coelewij also works in bronze, sculpturing in bronze has a surprising result. Most of the sculptures are created by pouring pure bronze in a casting-mould, then polished. After this, it is just a matter of time to get the bronze displaying its 'aged' patina look. Bronze is an exiting material, the result is a pleasure to the eye. |

Examples of sculptures in earthenare including the recently added brons-finish earthenware Jan Coelewij creates a series of unique earthenware sculptures produced at a extremely high standard. These sculptures are produces in a limited and numbered serie. The sculptures are designed by Jan Coelewij and produced at the prestigious 'Royal Delft' (De Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles) earthenware factory located in the historical town of Delft. Jan Coelewij supports and monitors the complete production cycle. The sculptures are available in unique colours (each colour is specifically designed for this series of sculptures) that are indicated at the order-on-line page. Jan Coelewij got in contact with Royal Delft in spring 2003. Initially, the goal was to mould a newly created stone sculpture and reproduce the sculpture in (a serie of) earthenware. After many discussions and trials (trying out the many production techniques available) Jan Coelewij and Royal Delft decided to partially adjust the 'known-established' moulding method and adjusting it to the very specific possibilities available. The 'first' model was not created by making a mould of an original but Jan sculptured a new design right into a solid block of high quality (by vacuum created to avoid air entering into the block) plaster, in fact this was exactly the way Jan created his sculptures already (stone/marble). This 'master' was then moulded and from this moment on the production was 'as-usual'. The model created could now be moulded with blue-earth (special traditional earthenware material as applied for hundreds of years). The cast was then heated to 1140 degrees Celsius (for24 hrs) resulting in the so called biscuit quality sculpture. This sculpture was then hand sprayed and finished with a coloured glazing. This finishing layer that has the specific quality of resulting in a cristallising effect showing a matt or shining finish after agian being in a heated oven (1200 Celcius) for many hours. The result is astonishing: sculptures created in a partially new way and produced as a result of a unique cooperation between Royal Delft and Jan Coelewij. These high quality works of fine art are now available and can be purchased in beautiful colours (including a special bronze finish), numbered and signed and produced in a limited amount. |
